Mount Olive, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the final two games of the series against the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Saturday afternoon. They fell 8-3 in game one and then dropped game two 7-1.
The Warriors had four hits in game one. Cam Mitchem and Clay Porter doubled. Grisso hit his first home run of the season to pick up two of the three RBIs. Travis Hammond was the lone Warrior to walk. Alex Sweeney pitched a complete game and struck out two batters.
Southern Wesleyan totaled five hits in game two. Both Cam Mitchem and Derek Francis had doubles. Jarrett Whitley had the lone RBI of the game off his solo home run. The Warriors walked four times and Jason Culley stole a base. Nick Vollmert started on the mound and pitched six innings while striking out two batters. Gehrig Schreiber, Ash Faulk, Steven Mufareh and Jaylen Morgan all came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened
Game One
The Trojans took the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning off a single by Kenney and a sacrifice fly by Cottle to give them a 3-0 run lead. They continued to attack the plate with runs in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Southern Wesleyan challenged in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Clay Porter hit a double to left center and then came in to score as Cam Mitchem doubled down the left field line. With two outs and Mitchem on second, Marty Grisso hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall to bring Mitchem in and put the Warriors within five.
However, the Warriors dropped game one of the series in an 8-3 final score.
Game Two
Game two of the series started out by a pitching dual by Southern Wesleyan's Nick Vollmert and the Trojan pitching dual of Hayden Myrick and Aiken Minton.
The Trojans fought hard at the plate and finally scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. They push on with six more runs between the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.
Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the ninth inning as with one out, Jarrett Whitley came in to pinch hit and hit a home run over the left field wall. However, the Warriors could not plate another run and fell to the Trojans in a 7-1 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will return home on April 10 as they host the Lander Bearcats in non-conference action. They will then welcome the Young Harris Mountain Lions to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on April 12-13. The Warriors will celebrate their annual Military Appreciation game on April 13. Southern Wesleyan will return to the road on April 16 as they travel to Mars Hill, NC to take on the Lions of Mars Hill University.
