Mount Olive, NC – The Warriors dropped the series opener against the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Friday evening in an 18-3 final score.
Southern Wesleyan totaled three hits coming off the bats of Justin Purdom, Zachary Kim and Griffin Pickhardt in the series opener. Purdom's hit came in the form of a double. Both Purdom and Clay Porter had RBIs. The Warriors walked five times and Marty Grisso was hit twice by pitches.
Christopher Hund started game one of the three game series and pitched 2.1 innings. Five Warriors came in to pitch in relief. Chase McKelvey and Christian Cassidy were the lone Warriors to record strikeouts during the game.

How It Happened
The Trojans attacked early as they plated runs in the bottom of the first, third and fifth innings to take a 9-0 run lead.
Southern Wesleyan brought their first run of the game in to score in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Cam Mitchem reached first after a fielding error by the third baseman. Justin Purdom then hit the ball to deep right field for a double that brought Mitchem across home plate.
Mount Olive regained their nine run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning off a sacrifice fly by Jeffries.
The Warriors challenged right back in the top of the seventh. Jason Culley led off by reaching on a walk and then advanced to second as Zachary Kim hit a single up the middle. A ground out by Jackson Mix allowed both Kim and Culley to advance a base. With two runners in scoring position, the Trojans catcher misplayed a ball that then allowed Culley to come in to score. Clay Porter ground out to short stop to bring Kim in.
The Trojans brought more runs in to score in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to win game one in an 18-3 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the series against the University of Mount Olive on April 6 in a double header beginning at 1pm. They will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on April 10 as they host the Lander Bearcats in a non-conference match-up beginning at 6pm. The Warriors will welcome the Young Harris Mountain Lions to Central, SC on April 12-13.
