Pembroke, NC – Southern Wesleyan was unable to hold onto their early lead as they fell in the series opener against the UNC Pembroke Braves in a 10-6 final score.
The Warriors recorded eight hits in the loss to the Braves. Jason Culley led the team with two of the five RBIs. Southern Wesleyan walked four times and Culley stole three of the four bases. The other stolen base came from Blayze Haddock.
Alex Sweeney started the game for the Warriors and pitched .2 innings before Steven Mufareh came in to pitch in relief. Mufareh pitched 4.2 innings while striking out four batters and only allowing three hits. Gehrig Schreiber, Bryce Metts and Jaylen Morgan came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked the plate early in the opening game of the series against UNC Pembroke. Blayze Haddock led off the inning by hitting a single to left field and then advanced to second as Cam Mitchem hit a single through the left side. A single to right by Gage Shaver brought Haddock in to score and put Mitchem on second. However, Jarrett Whitley ground into a double play shortly afterwards to take Shaver off the bases. Marty Grisso was hit by the next pitch thrown to put runners at the corners. With runners at the corners, Zachary Kim hit the ball to the pitcher for a single that brought Mitchem in. TJ Highsmith battled it out at the plate and finally reached first on a walk after a ten pitch at bat. With the bases loaded, Jason Culley came up to the plate and hit a single through the right side to bring both Grisso and Kim in to extend the Warriors lead to 4-0. A wild pitch allowed Highsmith to come in. With Culley at second base, Luke Staton hit a single down the right field line to bring Culley across home to give Southern Wesleyan a 6-0 run lead.
UNC Pembroke battled back as they brought runs in to score in the bottom of the first and sixth innings. They were not done as challenged the Warriors defense in the bottom of the seventh inning by plating five runs to give them the lead for the first time in the game.
The Braves continued to attack the plate as they brought three more runs in to score in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the game in a 10-6 final score.

Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season on April 27th as they wrap up the series against the UNC Pembroke Braves in a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
