Murfreesboro, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the first game of the series against the Chowan Hawks in a 4-2 final score.
The Warriors picked up eight hits in game one. Jarrett Whitley and Jason Culley each doubled. The lone RBIs came off the bats of Cam Mitchem and Travis Hammond. Southern Wesleyan walked three times.
Nick Vollmert started on the mound for game one of the series against the Hawks. Vollmert pitched 4.1 innings before Gage Shaver came in to pitch in relief. Shaver pitched 3.2 innings and struck out two batters.

How It Happened
Chowan took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as Bellamy hit a home run down the right field line to bring Amancio in to score and give the Hawks a 2-0 run lead.
Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the fourth inning. Noah Wiggins led off with a single to right center field and then advanced to second as Marty Grisso hit a single to left center. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance ninety feet. Cam Mitchem hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Wiggins to come in to score.
The Warriors pushed on in the top of the fifth inning. Clay Porter led off with a walk an then advanced to third as Tyler Jackson drilled a single to left center field. With runners on the corners, Travis Hammond put down a bunt single to bring Porter in to score and tie the game up 2-2.
However, a single by Santana allowed the Hawks to take a 4-2 run victory over the Warriors.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the series against the Chowan Hawks on February 25. The conclusion of game two of the series will begin at 11 am with the third game of the series set to follow. They will then return to Central, SC to host the Shorter Hawks on February 27 at 4pm. The Warriors will welcome the North Greenville Crusaders to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on March 1-2.
