Warriors Drop Double Header to Trojans

Mount Olive, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the University of Mount Olive in the opening games of the series on Friday evening.  The Warriors dropped the first game 14-3 and then lost the second game 19-4.

The Warriors posted 11 hits in the first game of the evening.  Both Josh Galloway and Clifton Olmstead had three hits in the game, including doubles for both of them.  Southern Wesleyan picked up three RBIs.  Josh Asbill walked twice.  Sean Sutay started the game on the mound and pitched five innings while striking out two batters.  Jacob Standridge, Aidan Evans and Andrew Patterson all came in to pitch in relief.

Southern Wesleyan picked up nine hits in the second game with Will Pitts leading the team with two.  Both Juan Garcia and Josh Asbill doubled.  Asbill had two of the four RBIs of the game.  The Warriors walked twice and Clifton Olmstead stole a base.  Beau Shaw started game one for Southern Wesleyan.  Ash Faulk led the team with three of the six strikeouts of the game.

How It Happened

Game One
Southern Wesleyan took the first runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning.  With two outs, Ty King Richards singled to center field.  Parker Pillsbury then drilled the ball to right center for a double that brought King Richards in to score.  A single up the middle by Josh Galloway brought Pillsbury in to put the Warriors ahead 2-0.

Mount Olive tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning off a double and a sacrifice fly out.

The Warriors continued to press as they regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning.  Josh Asbill led off with a walk.  Clifton Olmstead hit a double down the left field line to bring Asbill home to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 3-2.

The Trojans were not discouraged as they brought runs in to score in the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings to win game on 14-3.
 

Game Two
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the second game.  With two outs, Josh Galloway walked.  A single to left center field by Will Pitts allowed Galloway to advance to second base.  Josh Asbill then hit a double to right center to bring both Pitts and Galloway in to score and give the Warriors a 2-0 run advantage.

Mount Olive took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as singles and a home run by Pihl allowed four runs to come in and score.  The Trojans did not let up as they brought more runs across home plate in the bottom of the second and third innings to give them an 8-2 run lead.

The Warriors countered in the top of the fourth inning.  Caden Cotton led off by reaching first on a throwing error by the shortstop and then advanced to second on the play.  With two outs, Parker Pillsbury singled down the right field line to advance Cotton to third base.  A single up the middle by Josh Galloway allowed Cotton to come in to put the Warriors behind the Trojans by five runs.

The Trojans would not relent as they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 18-3 run lead.  They scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Warriors brought one more run in to score.  With one out, Dawson Posick singled to right center.  However, Posick was out the next play as Ty King Richards ground into a fielder's choice.  A wild pitch allowed King Richards to advance to second base.  Juan Garcia doubled down the right field line to bring King Richards in to score for the Warriors fourth run of the game.  However, Mount Olive would go on to win the game in a 19-4 final score.
 
 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the 2022 season on April 30 as they conclude the three game series against the University of Mount Olive Trojans at noon.
