Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan split the final two games of the three game series against the UVA Wise Cavaliers on Saturday. After claiming an 8-7 run victory in game one, the Warriors fell 7-6 in game two.
The Warriors collected 11 hits in the first game of the day.
DJ Ludwick,
Josh Galloway and
Parker Pillsbury each had three hits during the game. Three Warriors recorded doubles in the second victory of the season. Galloway led the team with four of the eight RBIs. Southern Wesleyan walked two times, and both
Josh Asbill and
Sean Sutay stole bases.
TJ McEvilly started game one for the Warriors. McEvilly pitched 3.2 innings while striking out four batters.
Jake Wisniewski and
Parker Pillsbury came in to pitch in relief and combined for five strikeouts. Wisniewski picked up the game one win.
Southern Wesleyan collected five hits in game two.
Chance Fogel led the team with two RBIs. The Warriors walked seven times and both Fogel and
Ty King Richards had stolen bases.
Devyn Bond started the second game and pitched three innings while striking out three.

How It Happened
Game One
UVA Wise took the early lead in game one as a grand slam off the bat of Cole Harness put them ahead 4-0 in the top of the first inning.
The Warriors started chipping away at their lead in the bottom of the first. With one out,
Josh Galloway singled to left field and then advanced to second on a balk.
Parker Pillsbury then singled to center field to advance Galloway to third base. With runners on the corners,
Josh Asbill hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Galloway in to score and put the Warriors within three runs of the Cavaliers.
Southern Wesleyan continued the offensive in the bottom of the second inning. With two out,
Sean Sutay singled to center field and then stole second base to get in scoring position.
Zach O'Malley followed with a walk.
DJ Ludwick then drilled a single to center field to bring Sutay across home plate. With runners on the corners,
Josh Galloway knocked a double to right center field to bring both Ludwick and O'Malley home and tie up the game 4-4.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Josh Asbill led off with a single up the middle and then stole second base. With one out, an error by the catcher allowed Asbill to advance third base.
Chance Fogel lined out to the second baseman, but Asbill was able to come in to score on the play.
The Cavaliers were not discouraged by the Warriors one run lead as they struck in the top of the fourth inning to plate three more runs.
Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge and their challenge started to pay off in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Parker Pillsbury doubled down the right field line and then advanced to third on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly out by
Josh Asbill allowed Pillsbury to come in and put the Warriors within one run of the Cavaliers.
The Warriors took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sean Sutay was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on a single by
DJ Ludwick. With two runners on,
Josh Galloway singled to bring both in and give the Warriors the 8-7 game one victory.
Game Two
The Cavaliers of UVA Wise scored first in game two as back-to-back singles by Prinkleton and Roberts allowed them to bring in two runs.
Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the third inning. With one out,
Josh Galloway walked and then
Parker Pillsbury was hit by a pitch to put two runners on the bases. A walk to
Josh Asbill loaded up the bases and bring
Chance Fogel up to bat. Fogel was hit by a pitch to bring Galloway in to score.
Ty King Richards struck out swinging, but a passed ball allowed Pillsbury and Asbill to come in toe score.
UVA Wise brought two more runs in to score in the top of the fourth inning to allow them to regain the lead. The Cavaliers continued to push ahead as they two times in the top of the fifth to give them a 6-3 run lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Josh Galloway led off with a single through the left side and then advanced to second as
Parker Pillsbury singled to left. A single by
Josh Asbill loaded up the bases and brought
Chance Fogel up to bat. Fogal singled to second, but was out stretching the single into a double. However, the single also allowed Galloway to come in to score to put the Warriors back within two. A sacrifice ground out by
Ty King Richards allowed Pillsbury to score Southern Wesleyan continued to push ahead as Fogel stole third and then
Jordan Montgomery walked. With runners on the corners, a passed ball allowed Fogel to score and put the Warriors and the Cavaliers in a 6-6 tie.
However, the Cavaliers scored again in the top of the fifth inning to win the game 7-6.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Cleveland, GA on February 8 to take on the Bears of Truett-McConnell at 3 p.m. They will remain on the road on February 11 as they travel to Newberry, SC to take on the Newberry Wolves at 5 p.m. The Warriors will return home on February 12 for a doubleheader against the Newberry Wolves.
