CENTRAL, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan University Head Women's Basketball Coach
John Davis is pleased to announce the program's eighth commitment for the upcoming season in Nakia Hooks. Hooks, a 5-9 power forward from Auburn, Ga., played her last two seasons at NCAA Division II member Lenoir-Rhyne University.
"We are thrilled to have Nakia join our campus community," stated Davis. "She is a strong player in the post that creates her scoring opportunities and uses her strength well. Nakia has a knack for getting to the basketball and poses a strong presence on both ends of the court. Nakia's personality and energy was evident to our staff when she visited campus. I have no doubt that she will add to our Christ-centered mission of our university and women's basketball program."
This past season at Lenoir-Rhyne, Hooks started 12 of 13 games and averaged 7.5 points and 7 rebounds per game, while shooting 47% from the field. She also had 22 assists on the season and had 7 games where she posted 8 rebounds or more. At Apalachee High School, Hooks is still the all-time points and rebounds leader, while also being a four-time All-Region selection during her prep career and also had her #4 jersey retired by the school.
