Augusta, GA – Southern Wesleyan picked up their fourth win of the season as they defeated Paine College in a 75-55 final score.
The Warriors shot 41.7% from the field and were 36% from beyond the arc. Makayla Raines led the team as she totaled 20 points while going 3-6 from beyond the arc. Behind her both Kyra Price (11 points) and Savanna Nicholson (11 points) also had double digits. The Warriors picked up 17 assists in the victory. Peyton Looky led the team with four assists while both Raines and Nicholson had three.
Southern Wesleyan totaled 52 rebounds with Kyra Price picking up a double-double as she led the team with 11. Price was followed by Esther Cole with nine rebounds and Makayla Raines with six. Danielle Earley had the lone block of the game for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan stole the ball away from Paine eight times with Peyton Looky having four steals to her name.

How It Happened
A foul early in the first quarter allowed Adia Dormu to score the opening basket for the Lions. However, Kyra Price laid the ball up into the basket seconds later to allow the Warriors to take the lead. Price pulled down a rebound off a missed shot by Nina Solomon and quickly passed the ball out to Makayla Raines. Raines hit a mid-range jump shot to put the Warriors on top. The Lions challenged as Dormu laid the ball up into the basket. With just over two minutes on the clock, Faith Yelton passed the ball out to Raines who put her first three pointer of the game.
Peyton Looky quickly got the ball out to Savanna Nicholson at the start of the second quarter. Nicholson stepped right outside the arc and hit her first three of the game to put the Warriors on top 21-18. Back-to-back baskets by Kyra Price and Danielle Earley extended the Warriors lead to five. A layup by Kyra McCrary kept the Lions within three. However, Savanna Nicholson hit another three in the final seconds of the quarter to give the Warriors a 32-26 point lead going into halftime.
The Lions opened up the third quarter with a three pointer by Leia Brown, but the Warriors answered less than a minute later as Makayla Raines hit a three pointer. Kyra Price laid the ball up into the basket and was fouled in the process to earn the and-one. With eight minutes on the clock, Raines got the ball out to Savanna Nicholson. Nicholson stepped back and put up another three to extend the Warriors' lead to twelve. Paine rallied with a three pointer by Brown and then a mid-range by Nina Solomon. The Warriors would not back down as Makayla Raines and Lexie Ransom hit back-to-back three pointers. In the final seconds of the quarter, Esther Cole stole the ball away from McCrary and went coast-to-coast to lay the ball up into the basket.
Lexie Ransom kicked off the final quarter of the game for the Warriors as she hit her only three pointer of the game to extend the Warriors lead to twenty. Layups out of the hands of Kyra McCrary and Leia Brown cut into Southern Wesleyan's lead. However, Peyton Looky stole the ball away from the Lions and sent it down the court to Makayla Raines. Raines laid the ball up into the basket to put Southern Wesleyan ahead by nineteen. With just over four minutes on the clock, Emily Gamon got the ball over to Looky who put up a mid-range. Maris Kate Paysuer knocked down a three pointer. With just over a minute on the clock, Kindal Glanton was fouled while making a mid-range to allow her to earn the and-one basket. However, the Warriors walked away with a 75-55 point victory over Paine.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will hit the road to Ferrum, VA on January 17 to take on the Ferrum Panthers at 2pm. They will then return home as they host the Shorter Hawks on January 21 and the University of Mount Olive Trojans on January 24.
