Warriors Sweep Maple Leafs Away

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept the Goshen Maple Leafs on Tuesday evening in 8-1 and 4-0 final scores.

The Warriors recorded 10 hits during the game one victory over the Maple Leafs.  Timo Schau led the team with three of the hits.  He was followed by Kole Rogers with two hits during the game.  Rogers posted three of the eight RBIs.  Three Warriors walked and collected sacrifice fly outs during the victory.  Timo Schau and Devin Patrick each had stolen bases, with Schau posting two.  Tanner Glass started game one of the afternoon, collecting four strikeouts and allowing no runs over six innings pitched.  Sandy Johnson came in to close out the game for Southern Wesleyan.

The Warriors posted seven hits in the game two victory.  Ty King Richards led the team with two of the seven hits.  Three Warriors had RBIs during the game and four Warriors walked.  Bryson Fowler recorded the lone sacrifice bunt and Jarred Jones had the lone stolen base.  Vinny Adams started game two on the mound for the Warriors, collected six strikeouts over six scoreless innings pitched.  Laython McLean closed out the game for the Warriors, picking up two strikeouts.

How It Happened

Game One

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the bottom of the first inning.  Timo Schau reached first on a single through the left side and then advanced to second on a passed ball.  With Schau on second, Ty King Richards grounded out to advance him to third base.  Kole Rogers followed with a single through the right side to bring Schau in and put the Warriors ahead 1-0.

The Warriors pushed ahead in the bottom of the second inning.  Dawson Posick led off with a walk and then advanced to third as Devin Patrick singled.  With runners on the corners, Patrick stole second base.  Colby Jones hit into a sacrifice fly to bring Posick in and give Southern Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.

Southern Wesleyan continued to keep up the pressure in the bottom of the third inning.  Timo Schau led off with a walk and then stole both second and third bases.  With Schau in scoring position, Kole Rogers hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Schau home.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Warriors struck again.  DJ Ludwick reached on a single and then advanced to second as Timo Schau singled to left field.  With two on, a throwing error by the catcher allowed both Ludwick and Schau to move up a base.  Ty King Richards followed with a single down the right field line to bring Ludwick in.  With two on, Kole Rogers singled to center field to bring Schau home.  With the Warriors up 5-0 and with two runners on, Parker Pillsbury singled to first base to load up the bases.  Dawson Posick followed with a single to right field that brought both Rogers and King Richards in.  A sacrifice fly by Devin Patrick brought Pillsbury home to put the Warriors up 8-0. 

The Maple Leafs put up their lone run of the game in the top of the seventh inning off a double by Creager.  Southern Wesleyan won the game 8-1.

 

Game Two

Southern Wesleyan put up the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning.  Jarred Jones led off with a single to right center and then stole second base to put him in scoring position.  Jones moved to third base on a single by Tyler Fuller.  With runners at the corners, a passed ball allowed Jones to score.  Devin Patrick followed with a single through the right side to bring Fuller home.  Tanner Glass walked and then Colby Jones was hit by a pitch to load up the bases.  With the bases loaded and two out, Ty King Richards singled to left field to bring Patrick home and put the Warriors on top 3-0.

The Warriors extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning.  With one out, Tyler Fuller reached first on a dropped third strike and then advanced to second on a passed ball.  Devin Patrick walked to put two runners on.  However, Tanner Glass hit into a fielder's choice that took Fuller off the bases.  With two on and two out, Colby Jones singled to bring Patrick home and allow the Warriors to win game two 4-0.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on February 28-29 as they welcome the Belmont Abbey Crusaders to Dr. C Keith Connor Field.  The Warriors will then travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on the North Georgia Nighthawks on March 4 at 4 p.m.  They will remain on the road as they take on the Erskine Flying Fleet on March 6-7.
