How It Happened

Augusta jumped out early as a home run off the bat of Landon Leonard gave the Jaguars the early advantage in the first inning.

The Jaguars continued to press as they scored in the second, third and fourth innings before the Warriors were able to get on the board.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Warriors went on the offensive.  Nolan Evatt led off the inning by hitting a double into left field.  Evatt advanced to third on a fly out by Cole Kirschner.  Ethan Shimmel put the ball in play, but an error at second allowed him to reach first and brought Evatt in to score the Warriors first run of the game.  Perry Dyer took a four pitch walk to put two runners on the corners and bring Kade Bowling up to the plate.  Bowling drilled the ball over the right field fence for a three run home run to put Southern Wesleyan within three runs of Augusta.

The Warriors plated another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Tristan Tillman was hit by a pitch.  Tillman was able to advance to third as Nolan Evatt hit a single into right center field.  A sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of Cole Kirschner allowed Tillman to come in to score.

However, Augusta would not relent as they scored four more times in the top of the sixth inning.

Southern Wesleyan challenged in the bottom of the seventh.  Matthew McCaffrey led off by being hit by a pitch.  Tristan Tillman then advanced to first on an error at shortstop that allowed McCaffrey to get into scoring position.  Nolan Evatt laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance each of the runners.  Cole Kirschner followed by hitting a sacrifice fly out to center field to bring McCaffrey in to score.  Ethan Shimmel followed by hitting a single to second base to allow Tillman to come in and score.

Augusta brought one more run in to score in the top of the ninth inning to win the game in a 12-7 final score.
