Warriors Score 54 Points In Second Half to Claim Win at North Greenville

Tigerville, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan improves to 4-3 in Conference Carolinas action after an impressive 86-66 win at North Greenville on Wednesday evening.

Eleven members of the Men's Basketball team saw time on the court against North Greenville as the Warriors shot 50.8% from the field. Clenzo Ross led the team with 24 points  and was closely followed by Ta'Jay Dunlap with 23 points. Hunter Davis also added 12 points, respectively. The Warriors dished out 16 assists with Ross leading with five. Strong defense would give the Warriors the edge over the Crusaders as they gathered 22 rebounds and 11 steals. Ross had seven of the rebounds as Dunlap picked up three steals on the night.

How It Happened

Clenzo Ross would make the first basket of the game that would be followed by Cameron Holmes with a 3-pointer to take a 5-0 lead. The Crusaders would take over the lead at 8-7 and that would extend into 17-10 lead for North Greenville. Hunter Davis would be credited the Warriors next five points as they cut the Crusaders lead to 19-15. North Greenville would continue to run with their lead, but the Warriors came fighting nearing the half with shots from Ross, Holmes, and a pair of free throws from Ta'Jay Dunlap. The Crusaders held a 35-32 lead at the half.

Ross would land the first basket of the second half as well and his second shot would put the Warriors ahead 36-35. The first four and a half minutes were scoreless for the Crusaders as the Warriors had jumped to a 41-35 lead before they scored. The Warriors forced five turnovers within minutes as they extended their lead to 51-37 courtesy of back to back shots from Davis. Ross and Dunlap would maintain the pressure on the Crusaders defense as they continued to put up shots on each drive. Offensive rebounding would prove beneficial as the Warriors were able to take advantage of second chance points throughout the second half. A strong half with 54 points would allow Southern Wesleyan to go on to win the game 86-66.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan remains on the road as they travel to play the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on January 11 at 7:30 p.m. They then head to Due West, S.C. to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet on January 15 at 7:30 p.m.
