Warriors Earn Third Straight Road Win

Due West, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 86-69 final on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors shot 50.8% from the field in the third straight road win in 2020. Clenzo Ross led the team with 17 points and he was followed by Ta'Jay Dunlap with 16 points. Dunlap and Ross each added four assists, along with Cameron Holmes adding three of his own. Six Warriors caused turnovers resulting in 10 steals as a team. Southern Wesleyan collected 37 rebounds with Ross having the team-high of nine. Holmes had the lone block of the evening.

How It Happened

Neither team jumped out aggressively in the contest, but Southern Wesleyan was able to put up the first basket as Hunter Davis put the Warriors on the board. Clenzo Ross and TJ Harvin would extend the Warriors lead to 7-0 before the Flying Fleet would score their first basket. The Warriors were pressured by Erskine's defense, but Jacob Smith's 3-pointer would put the Warriors up 14-7. The Flying Fleet would threaten with a basket from Emandi Brooks to come within two. The Warriors would score nine straight points to hold onto a 25-19 lead. Cameron Holmes would give the Warriors their biggest lead of the night with a 3-pointer to put Southern Wesleyan up by 11 points. The Warriors would go on to possess a 43-31 lead at halftime.

The Flying Fleet would open the second half with the first shot, but TJ Harvin would respond with a 3-pointer while picking up the and-one for a total of four points. The Warriors would possess the momentum that would give them a 60-42 lead after a pair of free throws from Edwon Brady. Southern Wesleyan would pressure the Flying Fleet by limiting their shots and out-rebounding them. Jalen Lowery would check back into the game and make an immediate impact with six straight points. Solomon Smith would follow with three points as the Warriors still led 79-57. Southern Wesleyan would go on to win their sixth Conference Carolinas game of the season with a final score of 86-69.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan returns to Tysinger Gymnasium on January 18 as they host the Barton Bulldogs at 4 p.m. They will then turn around to host Mount Olive on January 20 at 4 p.m.
