SWU Captures 3-0 Win in Home Opener

Southern Wesleyan opened up their home schedule in style with a 3-0 win over Montreat College in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium.

SWU won the first game 25-15, then battled out with a 25-22 and 25-20 win, respectively.  The Warriors hit just .154 in the match with Sarah Hughey leading the way with 15 kills and .393 average.  Paige O'Connor followed suite with nine kills on the night.

"It was nice to get our first home win under our belt," stated head coach Julia Reininga.  She added, "Thanks so much to the SWU community for all the support. We will get back to work tomorrow and keep working through our kinks as we head in to two tough matches this weekend."

During the inaugural season of full membership NCAA DII, SWU is holding special ceremonies at each home athletic event.  The crowd turned out in force tonight as Dr. Todd Voss, SWU President, offered up the "first serve".  A special intermission ceremony acknowledged other members of the SWU community instrumental in the transition.

SWU will travel to Augusta, Georgia on Saturday for matches against Georgia College and Augusta College.

The victory pushed SWU to 2-3 on the season, while Montreat fell to 2-8 overall.
