Bristol, TN – Southern Wesleyan fell in a five set thriller to the North Greenville Trailblazers on Friday evening to wrap up their 2025 campaign.
The Warriors collected 50 kills in the match with Kaylon Chapman leading the team with 12. Behind Chapman, Karson Haley had 10 kills. Setters Katie Fulton and Amiyah Spann each had 16 assists on the night. Calie Covey also posted double digits in assists as she had 10. Both Fulton and Michaela Andress had two service aces.
Defensively, the Warriors were able to pick up 95 digs. Libero Calie Covey led the team with 29. Katie Fulton (18), Michaela Andress (15) and Amiyah Spann (10) also had hit double digits in digs. Southern Wesleyan blocked 15 attacks by North Greenville. Sarah Mitchell had six blocks to her name while both Briley Wolff and Megan Gilliland had three.

How It Happened
Set One
Kaylon Chapman got the ball past the Trailblazers to claim the opening point of the first set for the Warriors. However, North Greenville answered with an ace by Samantha Ball to give them the lead. The lead was short lived as Megan Gilliland and Karson Haley got in subsequent kills to put Southern Wesleyan back on top. The Warriors would not relent as Briley Wolff and Chapman drilled the ball past the Trailblazers defense. A kill off the hands of Ball allowed North Greenville to tie the opening set up at nine. Calie Covey set the ball up to Michaela Andress who got the ball down past the Trailblazers defense. Anna Fiddelke and Gabby Rice blocked the next attack by Andress to keep North Greenville within one point of Southern Wesleyan. Chapman got the ball in for a kill and then Andress served up an ace to put the Warriors on top by three. North Greenville answered as Reagan Funderburk got up to block an attack by Briley Wolff to tie the set up at eighteen. Sarah Mitchell blocked an attack by Allison Ball and then Chapman served up an ace to allow the Warriors to claim the first set in a 25-21 final.
Set Two
The Warriors struck first again in the second set as Sarah Mitchell collected a set from Katie Fulton and drilled it down past the Trailblazers. A kill off the hands of Kaylon Chapman allowed Southern Wesleyan to extend their lead to 3-1. After a setting error allowed North Greenville to tie the set, Briley Wolff got up to block the next attack by Peyton Taylor. However, North Greenville's attacks paid off as kills by Elise Smith and Anna Fiddelke allowed the Trailblazers to take the lead. Several errors by the Warriors kicked off a ten point run by the Trailblazers to a 16-6 point lead. However, the Warriors answered with back-to-back kills by Karson Haley. Southern Wesleyan pressed on as Megan Gilliland collected a set off the hands of Fulton and got the ball down for a kill. Gilliland and Sarah Mitchell blocked the next attack by Gabby Rice. Michaela Andress drilled the ball to the corner of the court to put the Warriors down 21-15 to the Trailblazers. North Greenville persevered as they claimed the second set in a 25-17 final.
Set Three
Southern Wesleyan jump started the third set as Michaela Andress drilled the ball past the Trailblazers. North Greenville pressed on as Samantha Ball served up an ace and then Anna Fiddelke got in a kill. The Trailblazers continued their attacks as Ball got in another kill. Sarah Mitchell got the ball to land in the middle of several Trailblazers for a kill to cut North Greenville's lead down to two. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge as Andress served the ball in for an ace. Megan Gilliland and Kaylon Chapman drilled the ball past the Trailblazers. Gabby Rice and Fiddelke were able to block the next attack by Andress to tie the set up at thirteen. The Trailblazers went on the attack once again, but Sarah Mitchell and Karson Haley got up and blocked the attack by Peyton Taylor. The Warriors pressed on as Amiyah Spann served up an ace and then Kaylon Chapman drilled the ball down for a kill. Once again the Trailblazers went on the offensive as Peyton Taylor got in a kill. However, Megan Gilliland got the ball down for the set point kill to give the Warriors a 25-22 victory.
Set Four
The Warriors struck quickly in the fourth set as Kaylon Chapman got the ball down for a kill. Katie Fulton followed with her first service ace of the match to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0. North Greenville answered to tie the set up, but it was short lived as Megan Gilliland got the ball down for a kill. Kills by Briley Wolff and Sarah Mitchell put the Warriors back on top 5-4. It was short lived as Peyton Taylor got in another kill to tie the set up. Southern Wesleyan went on the offensive again, but Elise Smith and Reagan Funderburk blocked an attack by Ainsley Stovall. Stovall's next attack was able to land to keep the Warriors within one point of the Trailblazers. Calie Covey set the ball up to Karson Haley who ripped the ball down the line for a kill. However, the Trailblazers took a 14-8 point lead on kills by Samantha Ball and Gabby Rice. Micheala Andress broke a six point run by the Trailblazers as she got the ball in for a kill off a bad block. North Greenville persevered as a kill by Samantha Ball allowed the Trailblazers to take the fourth set in a 25-14 final.
Set Five
Katie Fulton kicked off the final set of the match as she served up an ace. Samantha Ball went on the attack, but Sarah Mitchell and Megan Gilliland blocked her attack from paying off. Ball attacked once again to get the Trailblazers on the board. Gilliland and Mitchell got up once again to block another attack by Ball. North Greenville answered as Anna Fiddelke got down another kill. Fiddelke went on the attack once again, but Briley Wolff went one-on-one with Fiddelke to block her attack. The Warriors and Trailblazers battled back and fourth as they countered each other's attacks. Kaylon Chapman got the ball in for a kill. However, the Trailblazers did not relent as Reagan Funderburk and Peyton Taylor got down kills. North Greenville went on to claim the fifth set in a 15-12 final score.
