Warriors Down Cavaliers for First Victory as Full Member of NCAA

CENTRAL, S.C.- Sebastian Castro scored the game-winning goal in Southern Wesleyan's 2-1 victory against Montreat and made history as the first victory for any Southern Wesleyan team as a full NCAA Division II member.

The Cavaliers (0-1) got on the board first in the 40th minute as Dale McClelland scored off a pass from Francisco Prado in the box. The Warriors (1-0) attempted nine shots in the first half, but were unable to capitalize.

Southern Wesleyan tied the game in the 62nd minute as Skyler Mattox scored the first goal of his career off a pass from Sam Rowden. Castro's goal off an assist by Marcelo Vargas in the 80th minute gave the Warriors a one-goal lead with ten minutes left in the game. Southern Wesleyan's defense held Montreat from attempting a shot the rest of the game to seal the victory.

Cavaliers goalie Miguel Tudon tallied 11 saves while Miguel Uribe (1-0) recorded three saves for the Warriors.

The Warriors will next travel to Bob Jones Sept. 3 for an 8 p.m. contest.
