Warriors Fall in First Match of Nationals

Paige O'Connor and Katie Anderson combine to contribute to 20 kills in the loss to Oklahoma Baptist.

Oklahoma Baptist struck first and quickly took a 3-0 lead over the Warriors.  Jenna Karel contributed with two kills to help the Warriors come to a point behind Oklahoma Baptist and make the score 3-4.  Oklahoma lengthened the difference to 12-10 over the Warriors.  Southern Wesleyan tied the set up 13-13 after Annika Jones blocked an attack by Nicole Fleitman.  A kill by Katie Anderson allowed the Warriors to take a 15-14 lead.  The Warriors were not able to hold their lead as ten consecutive points allowed Oklahoma Baptist to win the first set 25-19.

Southern Wesleyan University took the first point of the second set and quickly took a 6-4 lead over Oklahoma Baptist on a kill by Katie Anderson.  Oklahoma Baptist would not back down as they took a 14-11 lead on a kill by Nicole Fleitman.  The Warriors were not able to recover from Oklahoma Baptist despite kills by Paige O'Connor and Jenna Karel.  Oklahoma Baptist took the second set 25-15.

Oklahoma Baptist took a quick 5-3 lead over the Warriors, but kills by Paige O'Connor and Annika Jones brought them to 11-15 behind Oklahoma Baptist.  They fought hard, driving the game to 18-24 on kills by O'Connor and blocks by Kendall Vallancourt, but Oklahoma Baptist took the third set 25-18 and one the first match of the game 3-0.

"The team played very well at times!" said Head Volleyball Coach Julia Reininga.  "Paige stepped up and took on a lot during the match!  We will regroup and get ready for tonight!"

Annika Jones contributes with 20 assists and Milica Stamenic makes 14 digs in the loss.  The loss for the Warriors makes them 15-13 and 12-4 in Conference play for the season.  The Oklahoma Baptist Bison are now 21-14 and 11-5.  The Warriors will next play 6 p.m. December 1 and will take on Campbellsville University.
