Warriors Win Sixth Conference Game of the Season

Warriors win tenth game of the season and sixth game in NCAA Conference Carolinas.

Mount Olive and Southern Wesleyan battled back and forth across the field throughout the first half of the game with neither team gaining any ground on the other.  The Trojans took five shots on the goal compared to the Warriors' eight.  Going into half-time, the excitement was high and the game remained tied 0-0.

The Warriors turned up the energy in the second half of the game.  Their hard worked paid off as Christian Taylor scored the first goal of the game for the Warriors, his ninth goal of regular season play.  Taylor was assisted by fellow seniors Sam Rowden and Marcelo Vargas.  The goal by Taylor led to a 1-0 victor for the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University.

"Thankful to be able to get a win for the seniors today," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Garrett Bireline.  He continued, "They've invested so much here.  We did a great job of staying the course."

Miguel Uribe contributed with 7 saves in the game.  The Warriors took a total of 22 shots on the goal in the victory.

The Southern Wesleyan University Warriors record becomes 10-7 and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas action after the win.  The University of Mount Olive Trojans become 5-9-1 and 4-6 in Conference play.

At the beginning of the game, Coach Bireline honored his nine seniors with a presentation of a plaque.  The seniors include: goalie Alex Luna of Lake City, SC, defender Nestor Gonzalez of Bogota, Colombia, defender Keegan Wilkinson of London, England, defender Stewart Bailey or Walterboro, SC, midfielder Fernando Posada of Columbia, SC, forward Christian Taylor of Cortagena, Columbia, forward Marcelo Vargas of Asuncion, Paraguay, defender Sam Rowden or Lincoln, England and midfielder Michel Herszenhaut of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
