Box Score The Warriors came into this evening's match-up hopeful to secure themselves a place in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals. They took nine shots on the goal in comparison to the three shots that Anderson tried to sneak through the watchful gaze of Miguel Uribe. Southern Wesleyan's persistence paid off when Michel Herszenhaut scored his tenth goal of the season right before the half-time buzzer sounded. Herszenhaut was assisted by fellow senior Christian Taylor.
Tensions were high in the second half as the Warriors tried to keep the Trojans from tying the game. However, after nine shots on the goal, the Trojans' Landon Goodman was able to slip the ball around the strong Warrior defense to score a goal and tie the game. With the game tied 1-1, the teams were forced into sudden death overtime.
The first overtime period ended with neither team gaining any ground. During the second overtime, the Trojans were given a penalty kick near the goal. Josh Calabria took the shot and made the winning goal on the penalty kick.
Uribe contributed with four saves in the game. The Southern Wesleyan Warriors record goes to 9-7 and 5-4 after the match. The Anderson University Trojans rise to 2-9-1 and 0-8-1.
The Warriors will return to Childs Field for their last regular season home match on Saturday, October 29 where they will take on the University of Mount Olive at 3 p.m. During the match, the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors will celebrate their 8 Seniors on the team.
