The Warriors and the Flying Fleet went back and forth throughout the first half, dribbling the ball from one side of the field to the other. Despite the 8 shots on goal between both teams, the game was tied 0-0 at the half. The intensity of the game grew as both teams pushed to pull ahead with a combined 16 shots on goal. Despite the fierce competition, neither SWU nor Erskine could gain a goal to win, forcing the game into overtime.
Overtime only intensified the competition between the two teams. In the ninety-eighth minute of play, the game ended with a goal by Skyler Mattox to give SWU the win. Mattox was assisted by Michel Herszenhaut.
Miguel Uribe compiled 3 saves in the Southern Wesleyan win. The victory brings SWU's record up to 7-5 and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Erskine College Flying Fleet's record becomes 6-5 and 4-2 in Conference play.
The Warriors will travel to Emmanuel on Saturday, October 15th before traveling to King on the 19th. They will return home for Southern Wesleyan University's Homecoming weekend on October 22 to take on the North Greenville University Crusaders at 3:30 p.m.
