NEWBERRY, S.C.‑ Southern Wesleyan's men's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2016 season as they fell 5-2 to Newberry.
The Warriors (0-1) went 2-4 in singles competition and 0-2 in doubles competition.
In singles play, Camilo Sandoval defeated Fernando Espana 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 1 and Urs Widow defeated Marko Sekulic 8-7, 7-4 at the No. 6. Jordan Monosky defeated Stan Grzeslo 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2, Jacob Svantesson defeated Daniel Zapata at the No. 3, Angel Pizzaro defeated Harry Reed 8-3 at the No. 4, and Richard Zeh defeated Keegan Barkley 8-5 at the No. 5.
In doubles play, Espana/Tous defeated Sandoval/Zapata 8-2, Monosky/Svantesson defeated Grzeslo/Widow 8-4 at the No. 2, and Feliciano/Pizzaro defeated Barkely/Reed 8-3 at the No. 3.
Southern Wesleyan next plays at Mars Hill Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
