Box Score 2 CENTRAL, S.C. - After falling in their first two matches of the Maryville Invite in St. Louis on Friday, Julia Reininga's team rebounded to win both matches on Saturday. The Warriors are now 2-2 on the season after defeating host school Maryville 3-1 and Henderson State 3-0.
The Warriors bested Maryville 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20 and defeated Henderson State 25-23, 25-11, 25-23.
"We changed the lineup up a bit today," coach Reininga said. "We are still making adjustments and working to be stronger every time we take the court. I'm so pleased to see us get some wins at such a tough tournament. I'm proud of the way the girls are continuing to improve every match and I'm very excited to play at home on Tuesday against a strong Lander team."
Senior Sarah Hughey and sophomore Paige O'Connor paced the Warriors on offense. Both were named to the All-Tournament team for their performance in the tournament. The hitters had 22 and 31 kills, respectively, in the two games Saturday.
"This weekend was the kind of weekend where we kept building as we went," Hughey said. "More than anything, we learned how to pick each other up and come out on top together."
"I'm really proud of how we learned to grow as a team to start the season," fellow senior Megan Widener said. "We started to find some strong connections today and we worked well together on every point to record two huge wins."
The Warriors take on Lander on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in their first home match of the season.
