Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team picked up their first conference win of the season by defeating Barton 3-1 on a dreary Sunday afternoon at Childs Field. With the win, the Warrriors improve to 4-3-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in Conference Carolinas while Barton falls to 1-7 on the season and 0- 4 in conference play.

Barton was the first on the scoreboard as Jovan Gracia scored on a corner kick from teammate Javier Alcarria 4:50 into the game. It wouldn't take long for the Warriors to even the score as Michel Herszenhout, the team's leading goal scorer, netted his fourth of the year at the 12:21 mark off a pass from Sebastian Castro. About seven minutes later, Juan Agudelo would add his first goal of the year to give the Warriors the lead, again with an assist from Castro.

Out of the half, the Warriors continued to threaten. At the 65:43 mark, Herzenhout would add another goal, his fifth of the year, as he headed in a pass from Marcelo Vargas. Though Barton had the advantage in corner kicks 4-0, both teams tallied eight shots in the contest. Warrior goalkeeper Ruben Rodriguez added four saves in the win.

"I'm really happy for the guys to finally get a conference win," said head coach Camilo Rodriguez. "It was nice to see the guys pick themselves up after going down early in the game. I'm very proud!"

The Warriors return to action Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Newberry College. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
