Bobcats Outlast Warriors Saturday Night

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team fell just short at Lees-McRae on Saturday night. With the game scoreless for 89 minutes of play, the Bobcats scored a goal with 59 seconds left in the game and the 1-0 lead would hold. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 3-2-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play, while the Bobcats improve to 3-2 and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas. 

Nathan Watt's lone goal came off of a header from about seven yards out. Lees-McRae took 13 shots in the contest while Southern Wesleyan took eight. The Bobcats also had a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks. Ruben Rodriguez recorded three saves in goal for the Warriors. 

"I'm proud of our hard work and effort," said head coach Camilo Rodriguez. "Lees-McRae is a very tough place to play, but I'm proud we never gave up."

Southern Wesleyan returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 22 against Emmanuel. The game, held at Childs Field, follows the women's game, also against Emmanuel, and will begin around 7:15 p.m. Admission is free to all home men's soccer games.
