Warriors Swept in Conference for First Time

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the first time this season Southern Wesleyan softball was swept in conference action, dropping both games to King, 5-2 and 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors will return home to play Emmanuel on Monday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday against Point has been cancelled and will not be made up.

Game One
A late-inning rally fell short as the Warriors lost 5-2 in the opener to King. SWU scored twice in the final inning but couldn't get the tying run to the plate as Morgan Lowe shut the door after a run-scoring double and a sac fly.

King scored two in the second and another in the third off of Lucy Wolff. Wolff allowed five runs on the day but just three earned as the Warriors committed two errors behind her. The Tornado added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

SWU finally got on the board in the seventh as Callie Wayne led it off with an infield single. She moved to second as Ashleigh Wilbur reached on a fielder's choice. Haley Collins followed with double to left center to score Wayne. After a groundout, Taylor Fox hit a sac fly to right to bring home Wilbur.

SWU also had a chance to score in the fourth as two runners were thrown out on the bases and the bases were left loaded. The Warriors collected three of their seven hits in the game in that inning including one of Natalie Johnson's two. Johnson was the lone Warrior with a multi-hit effort.

Game Two
The Warriors out-hit King but couldn't push across a run, falling to the Tornado 2-0 in the second game to suffer their first conference sweep of the season. The Warriors picked up six hits as three players each had two hits.

King scored both runs in the fourth as Amanda Sports tripled to start the inning and scored one batter later on a sac fly. Hannah Smith followed with a solo homer to put the Tornado up 2-0.

The Warriors had a great chance in the fourth as the Warriors loaded the bases with one out but a pair of fielder's choices ended the threat. In the sixth, Ashleigh Wilbur doubled to left but Lizzie Fela was thrown out at home trying to score from first.

Fela was one of three players with two hits as she also singled in the second and walked in the fourth. Wilbur also had two hits with a double and single while Haley Collins picked up a pair of singles.

Hunter Hoskins suffered her first loss of the season after pitching four innings and allowing both runs. The freshman gave up just four hits in her four innings. Allison Parker pitched the final two frames, striking out two. With the loss, Hoskins falls to 5-1 on the season.
