BANNER ELK, N.C. – Allison Barbee provided the heroics in both games, hitting a winning home run in the top of the final inning as the Warriors swept Lees-McRae 4-2 and 12-11 in nine innings.
The Warriors will take on King (Tenn.) on Sunday with a start time of 2:30 p.m. SWU returns home on Monday and Tuesday to host North Greenville and Point.
Game One
Allison Barbee belted a two-run homer to left center in the top of the seventh to lift the Warriors past the Bobcats, 4-2, in game one. For Barbee it was her conference-leading 10th round tripper of the season.
The Warriors got on the board first in the first as Barbee doubled home Lizzie Fela. Barbee finished the game with two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Barbee scored the second run of the game in the third, scoring on a double from Callie Wayne that put the Warriors up 2-0.
Lees-McRae scored both of their runs in the fourth, thanks in part to a fielding error by the Warriors. Callie Wayne allowed three of the six hits in the game in that fourth inning, all singles. Wayne went the distance for the Warriors to improve to 5-7 on the season, striking out three in the complete game.
Taylor Fox singled up the middle to lead off the seventh, one of two hits in the game, to set up Barbee's blast.
Game Two
Barbee did it again, hitting a two-run homer in the top of the ninth as the Warriors fought back and held off Lees-McRae in game two 12-11 in nine innings.
Barbee had three hits in the game but it was her lone two RBIs that proved to be the difference. This time Barbee hit it out to right center as Taylor Fox scored after starting the inning on second due to the international tiebreaker.
Lizzie Fela also had three hits including a three-run homer in the sixth, part of a six-run inning. The fifth homer of the season for Fela was hit out to center that helped put the Warriors up 10-6. The Bobcats answered though in the bottom of the sixth with four runs of their own to help force extras.
The Warriors collected a season-high 18 hits in the game as six players had multi-hit games. In addition to Barbee and Fela's three hits, Shelby Stroud, Natalie Johnson, Ashleigh Wilbur and Haley Collins all had two hits each.
Lucy Wolff picked up the win in relief, pitching the final two innings, allowing just one hit and one unearned run. With the win, Wolff improves to 3-3 in her freshman campaign.
