BANNER ELK, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's tennis dropped a Conference Carolinas match to Lees-McRae on Saturday, 8-1.
The Warriors saw two singles matches go three sets and two others go to a single set tiebreak, but came out on the wrong end of all of those. Matthew Plummer picked up the lone win for the Warriors, winning No. 5 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 over Adam Chivers.
Both Alex Ballenger and Keegan Barkley went to a third set, but ended up losing No. 4 and No. 2 singles respectively. Ballenger took the first set 6-4 over Sebastian Zuhr before falling 6-3, 10-6 in the final two sets. Barkley dropped the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-2) before bouncing back to take the second 6-4, but in the third it was Carols Pinel getting the upper hand to win 10-7.
In other singles action both Camilo Sandoval and Jacob Chesney lost their first sets in a tiebreak before falling in straight sets. Sandoval dropped No. 1 singles 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 to Joao Araujo while Chesney lost at No. 3 to Garrett Lakey 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
In doubles action the duos of Sandoval and Barkley lost to Araujo and Lakey 8-1 at No. 1 while Chesney and Ballenger lost to Pinel and Gabriel Muniz at No. 2, 8-3.
The Warriors return to action next Friday at Belmont Abbey at 1 p.m.
