Erskine Upends Men's Tennis 6-3

CLEMSON, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's tennis suffered their second straight 6-3 loss on Saturday, falling to Erskine in a matchup of Conference Carolinas foes at Nettles Park.

The Warriors trailed 2-1 after doubles action as Jacob Chesney and Alex Ballenger won their first match of the season, 8-4 over Benny Uy and Eddie Gullino at the No. 3 position. Camilo Sandoval and Keegan Barkley put up a good fight at No. 1 but fell to Jason Harris and Wilson Matthews 8-5. Matthew Plummer and Loic Delaby took the loss at No. 3, 8-3 against Alan Pearce and Andre Andre.

In singles action Sandoval won for the third time this season and second match in a row, as Matthews retired after trailing 4-1 in the first. Plummer also notched a win in singles action, his first of the year, winning at the No. 6 position 6-3, 6-3 over Benny Uy.

Chesney took the opening set 7-6(8-6) over Alan Pearce but Pearce bounced back to earn the point at the third flight by taking the final two sets 6-4, 6-0. Alex Ballenger also went to three sets, falling in the third set tiebreak 5-3. Ballenger won the first 6-3 before dropping the second to Eddie Gullino 6-5.

The Warriors return to the court in a week as they make up a snowed out contest at Lenoir-Rhyne on March 14 at 3 p.m. That match starts a six-game road swing. SWU won't return home until March 31.
