CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan picked up their third straight sweep, defeating Fort Valley St. 10-4 and 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field.
The Warriors hit the road on Monday, travelling to Georgia Gwinnett for a doubleheader slated to begin at 3 p.m.
Game One
The Warriors trailed early 4-1 but a big six-run sixth gave the Warriors a 10-4 win in game one. Shelby Stroud led off the inning with a doubled to right center. Amber Donald came in to run for Stroud and after an error allowed Natalie Johnson to reach base, Hunter Hoskins knocked in Donald with an RBI groundout.
A wild pitch brought home Johnson to put the Warriors up 6-4. Ashleigh Wilbur doubled in a run later in the inning and was followed by another wild pitch to score another. Lizzie Fela added her second double of the game to score Wilbur and Allison Barbee capped the scoring with a double of her own to score Fela.
SWU had to fight back after giving up four runs in the top of the first as the Lady Wildcats collected six of their nine hits. Hunter Hoskins entered in the circle in the second and allowed just three hits in six innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the year. Hoskins struck out five and didn't give up a run.
Fela finished the game with three hits and four RBI. In addition to her two doubles the sophomore also tripled. Sweatt, Wilbur and Barbee each had two hits as the Warriors piled up 12 in the game. Sweatt also scored three times.
Game Two
The Warriors scored three times in the first but left the bases loaded as FVSU walked or hit five batters. Sara Sweatt had the lone hit in the inning, a one-out single to left. Sweatt scored the game's first run on a wild pitch. Shelby Stroud picked up an RBI with a sac fly and Haley Collins picked up an RBI with a bases loaded walk.
SWU only had two hits after the first but didn't need to score any more as Callie Wayne and Lucy Wolff combined to allow just three hits all game. Wayne picked up the win with 4.0 innings of one-hit ball. She struck out four and walked two to improve to 2-0. Wolff picked up her second save with a 3.0 inning effort.
