CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan never led as Limestone ran away with an 83-49 win on Saturday night in Tysinger Gymnasium. The Saints led 38-17 at halftime and made 15 threes in the game.
The Warriors fell behind 17-4 in the first eight minutes as the Saints made five triples in six attempts in a four minute span. Limestone knocked down 9 of 19 from beyond the arc and 15 of 30 for the game. SWU made just 5 of 18 from long range in the game.
After Cameron Solomon made a three to just the margin to 17-7, the Saints scored three straight threes to push the lead up to 26-7. A quick 5-0 run by the Warriors preceded a 12-5 run by the Saints to close the half and head to the locker room up 38-17.
The three point barrage didn't stop in the second half as the Warriors couldn't find an answer offensively. SWU shot just 26 percent (8 of 31) in the second half and 25 percent (13 of 53) in the game. Limestone connected at a 48 percent (28 of 59) clip for the game.
Solomon led the Warriors with 17 points, but struggled to a 5 of 16 shooting performance. The senior made 4 of 8 from beyond the arc and all three free throws. Solomon was the lone Warrior in double figures but Dwyane Bryant nearly recorded a double double with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Buster Walker added eight points and eight rebounds. Skyler Moss scored seven points and pulled down five boards in just 10 minutes of action.
Limestone was led by Shaq Dance's 26 points and seven assists. Brolin Floyd added 17 and made 5 of 7 from long range while Teron Wallace scored 14 off the bench, making 4 of 7 from deep.
The Warriors out-rebounded the Saints 40-39 and pulled down 17 offensive rebounds. Limestone had 12 offensive rebounds but the teams were equal on second chance points with 11 each. The Saints scored 25 fast break points as the Warriors were shut out.
These two teams will meet again in Gaffney on Jan. 23. SWU is back in action on Wednesday at Mount Olive for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
