CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan shot under 40 percent for the game as Emmanuel shot 50 percent en route to an 87-66 win over the home side on Saturday afternoon in Tysinger Gymnasium.
The Warriors had four players in double figures led by Cameron Solomon's 16 points but nearly everyone struggled shooting the ball against Emmanuel's defense. The Lions knocked down 10 of 25 (40 percent) from long range as Michael Stanley connected on 4 of 6 and led all players with 22 points.
Solomon was joined in double figures by Kenny Holmes (13), Buster Walker (12) and Dwayne Bryant (10). Bryant and Holmes each added nine rebounds to lead the team. Mike Lieberman came off the bench to grab six rebounds and score five points. Darius Sharpe added seven points off the bench.
The Warriors grabbed an early 4-0 lead as Solomon and Walker connected on back-to-back possessions. After those two possessions though the Warriors were outscored 18-2 as the Lions opened up a 12-point advantage.
SWU cut the deficit back to six on two occasions but from 4:19 on in the first half the Lions lead stayed in double figures. Emmanuel led 40-24 at halftime and pushed the lead out to 29 with 6:43 to play in the game.
Emmanuel shot 50 percent (29 of 58) from the floor while the Warriors connected on just 25 of 63 (39.7 percent). SWU managed to make just 5 of 13 (38.5 percent) from long range and even struggled at the free throw line at 57.9 percent (11 of 19). Emmanuel made 19 of 27 (70.4 percent) at the stripe.
The Warriors will make the return trip to Franklin Springs on Feb. 21.
SWU will wrap up a four-game home stand on Tuesday as they welcome Barton to Historic Tysinger. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
