Warriors Fall to King 84-72

CENTRAL, S.C. – Cameron Solomon scored 27 points for Southern Wesleyan but it wasn't enough to overcome King on Tuesday night as the Warriors fell 84-72 to the Tornado at Tysinger Gymnasium.

Solomon netted 17 of his points in the first half, connecting on 6 of 9 field goal attempts and 4 of 7 from long range. The senior was held to just 10 points in the second half on 2 of 6 shooting.

Kenny Holmes flirted with a triple double for the Warriors with seven points, seven assists and eight rebounds. The junior struggled from the floor shooting but kept finding open shooters in the corners as the Warriors knocked down a season-high 13 3-pointers.

Solomon and Tomas Suska both made five from long range. Suska's 15 points off the bench are a season-high. He scored 12 in the second half, shooting 4 of 7 from beyond the arc after halftime.

After the Warriors closed to within two at halftime, 38-36, King opened the second half on a 14-0 run in the first 3:57 as Logan Lyle and C.J. Good combined to score all 14 points, including 12 from long range. Good finished with a team-high 22 points, making 4 of 6 from deep.

King pushed the lead out to 24 with 4:42 to play before the Warriors went on a 19-5 run to make it a 10 point game, but time was not on their side as 23 seconds remained.

SWU shot 46 percent (24 of 52) from the floor and 38 percent (13 of 34) from long range while Kind countered at 50 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from three.

King secured 10 more rebounds, 38-28, then the Warriors including 13 on the offensive end that led to 19 second chance points. SWU only had four second chance points on six offensive rebounds. King also used 13 SWU turnovers to score 17 points while the Warriors converted just seven points off of nine King turnovers.

The Warriors are back in action at home on Saturday to host Emmanuel at 4 p.m.
