Box Score
WILSON, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's soccer picked up their first win in Conference Carolinas with a 2-1 victory over Barton College on Saturday night.
Joao Oliveira provided the game-winner with his first goal of the season in the XXth minute. Oliveira beat the defense down the right wing then beat Barton's keeper – Derek Collins – to give the Warriors their first conference win of the season.
Barton (5-3, 1-1 CC) actually got on the board first with a goal from Erik Pajunk in the 12th minute. Pajunk one-timed a pass from Kevin Strassburger to earn his fifth goal of the season. That lead was short lived as SWU (5-3, 1-2 CC) countered with the second goal of the season from Bruno Liozzi. Liozzi found the back of the net after a cross from Alejandro Sanchez, just keeping the ball low enough to slide under the crossbar.
Ruben Rodriguez made five saves in goal for the Warriors to improve to 5-3 on the year. Rodriguez has made at least five saves in each of the last three games and four times overall on the season. His counterpart on the evening Derek Collins made three saves.
The Warriors took 11 shots to 15 for the Bulldogs while the visitors were whistled for 24 fouls to just 10 for Barton. SWU was shown five yellow cards on the evening.
SWU remains on the road for the next three matches, travelling to Milligan on Wednesday for a nonconference matchup at 7 p.m.
