WEST POINT, Ga. – The offense came alive late as the Warriors rallied to sweep Point University in non-conference softball action on Tuesday night.
The Warriors will return home for the first time in two weeks to host Truett-McConnell on Thursday at 5 p.m. and then turn right around and host Brewton-Parker on Friday at 5 p.m.
Game One
A two-run double by Savannah Carpenter lifted the Warriors to a 5-4 win in game one over Point University. Sara Sweatt was placed on second via the international tie-breaker and Allison Parker was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before Carpenter followed with the game-winning hit.
The Warriors collected 12 hits including two each by Carpenter and three other players. Lizzie Fela knocked in a run with a double in the first, one of two hits by the freshman in the game. Allison Barbee and Ashleigh Wilbur also knocked in one and had two hits in the game.
SWU scored first, bringing in two in the first inning before the Skyhawks answered with two of their own in the bottom half. Point took a brief lead with a run in the fourth before the Warriors tied it up in the sixth. Point added a run in the bottom of the eighth after a passed ball and a single but the Warriors wiggled out of the jam as Allison Parker finished off Point.
Parker pitched the final three innings to improve to 2-2 on the year. She allowed four hits and didn't walk a batter. Jenn Jacoby made the start and tossed the first five innings, giving up five hits and three runs, just two earned. He struck out three and walked one. Jordan Edge took the loss in relief for Point.
Game Two
The Warriors trailed 7-3 after three innings but a big six-run fifth and an eight-run sixth gave the Warriors the six-inning win, 17-9. The Warriors added 12 more hits including three from Lizzie Fela but also walked five times and were hit by three pitches.
Fela hit her team-leading seventh home run of the season in the second inning, a solo shot to lead off the inning. She added a single in the fifth and sixth innings, knocking in a run in the process in the fifth. She finished the game with three hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
Allison Barbee also added three RBI as did Allison Parker. Barbee had a pair of hits, both in the eight-run sixth. In that inning the Warriors had six hits and scored eight times, sending 12 batters to the plate. They also put up six runs on three hits in the fifth as 10 hitters came to the plate. Shelby Stroud and Katie Jacoby each had two RBI in the game as Sara Sweatt also had two hits.
Allison Parker picked up her second win of the day and third of the season in relief for the Warriors. The sophomore entered in the third inning with the score already 7-3 in favor of Point. From that point on the Skyhawks recorded just four hits after having nine before Parker entered. Parker allowed just two runs in the fifth in 3.2 innings of work.
