Warriors Snap Skid With Blowout of Auburn-Montgomery

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a dominating 82-65 win over Auburn-Montgomery in SSAC play on Monday night.  The game was rescheduled twice due to snow.

The Warriors (22-12, 6-7 SSAC) built a 10-point lead in the first half, 27-17 with 7:59 left in the half, before weathering a run from the Warhawks (7-14, 4-9 SSAC).  AUM whittled the lead down to just two at 30-28 after an 11-2 run but the Warriors pushed it back to eight by halftime.

In the second half the Warhawks kept the game close, not letting the SWU lead grow too much in the first seven minutes.  Then the Warriors started an incredible 21-3 run to push the lead out to 25 and put the game away with 7:51 to play.

Cameron Solomon scored 15 of his game-high 28 in the first half hitting three three's in the process.  It was the highest output by Solomon since January 11 against Loyola when he scored 32.  This was his 13th 20-point game of the season.

Kenny Holmes added 19 points, 14 in the second half to help the Warriors put away the Warhawks.  Terrance Hutchins had a nice all-around game off the bench with 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists.  Dwayne Bryant added 10 points and five rebounds, all in the first half.

The Warriors shot 52 percent from the floor  including a 45.5 percent clip (10 of 22) from beyond the arc.  Both teams shot 22 free-throws but the Warriors made 16 and the Warhawks just 12.  AUM made 47 percent of their field goal attempts.

These teams will meet again on Saturday in Montgomery.

The win gives the Warriors a half-game lead over Coastal Georgia (who the Warriors host on Thursday) and Brewton-Parker to sit along in third place in the SSAC East.  The top five teams from the division will qualify for the SSAC Tournament in March.

SWU will turn right around and host Bob Jones on Tuesday at 7 p.m.  The Bruins took the first game this season by a score of 72-65.
