Solomon's 31 not enough against USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – Cameron Solomon scored a game-high 31 points but that wasn't enough to lift the Warriors past No. 20 USC Aiken on Tuesday night as the Pacers defeated Southern Wesleyan 88-73 at the Convocation Center.

Solomon scored 22 of his 31 in the first half as the Warriors did not allow the Pacers to run away after building a big early lead.  USC Aiken took a 36-21 lead with 6:35 to play in the first half but the Warriors stormed back with a 20-9 run to close the half.  Solomon scored 12 of his 22 first-half points during the spurt.

The Warriors shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the first half led by Solomon's 7-for-13.  For the game the Warriors shot 46.4 percent while the Pacers chimed in at 49.2 percent.  SWU made 7-of-22 from beyond the arc led by Solomon and Kenny Holmes who both connected on three three-pointers.  USC Aiken shot 10-of-26 from downtown as four players made at least two three's including Keith Belfield who made three.

In the second half the Warriors kept the game close as a pair of Solomon free throws brought the team within two at 66-64 but an 18-6 over the next seven minutes by the Pacers put the game out of reach.  Over the final eight minutes the Warriors were 3-for-10 from the floor and turned the ball over five times as the Pacers pulled away.

In addition to Solomon's 31, Holmes added 14 points and eight rebounds. He also had a team-high three assists and two steals.  Buster Walker notched 11 boards for the Warriors on the night with three coming on the offensive side.  Walker also scored six points and had two assists as the Warriors collected just eight assists on 26 made field goals.  Jemiah Wimphrie scored eight points off the bench on just four field goal attempts. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds in just 20 minutes of action.

Three Pacers hit double figures in scoring led by Dominic Early's 28 points and 12 rebounds.  The Warriors actually won the battle of the boards 36-33 as both teams brought down 11 offensive rebounds.  The difference came with the Pacers turning those 11 offensive rebounds into 19 second chance points while the Warriors managed just 11.  SWU also turned the ball over 19 times which led to 28 points for Aiken while the Pacers gave the ball up just nine times, leading to 10 points.

The Warriors have no time to rest as they open up Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Lees-McRae.  SWU is in the midst of playing their first five games away from home including four in a five day stretch.
