BELMONT, N.C. – A pair of second half goals lifted Southern Wesleyan men's soccer to their third straight win, 2-0 over Belmont Abbey on Saturday.
The Warriors (7-3, 2-2 CC) netted the first goal in the 58th minute as Jonathan Ruiz found the back of the net for his third goal of the season. SWU added on in the 68th as Bruno Liozzi added his third of the year as Alejandro Sanchez set him up.
Belmont Abbey (2-5-2, 1-3 CC) took more shots in the match (13-12) than the Warriors and put more on frame (5-4) but the Warriors made more of their chances. Ruben Rodriguez stopped all five shots that threatened his goal in earning his third shutout of the year and fourth for the team. Rodriguez improved to 7-3 on the year.
SWU is back in action on Wednesday, heading to Toccoa Falls for a 7 p.m. start.
