BRISTOL, Tenn. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball remains unbeaten in conference play after picking up a 3-1 decision at King (Tenn.) on Friday night.  The Warriors are 4-0 in their first year in Conference Carolinas.
The Warriors (13-5, 4-0 CC) overcame a four-point deficit in the first set, trailing at 16-12, with a 6-0 run to take control of the set.  Milica Stamenic had three aces during the run and finished the match with all four of the team's aces.  SWU continued the momentum by taking five of six points to lead 23-19 as four different players notched a kill during that run.  Alysia Curell finished off the set with two kills to take the set 25-20. 
Cruell finished the first set with four kills on 10 attempts. Cherilyn Ramsey led the team with five kills in the first set.  The Warriors hit .378 for the set and .273 for the match while the Tornado hit just .196 for the match despite a .333 clip in the opening set.
In the second the Warriors opened up a 19-12 lead after trailing 9-8.  That large evaporated as King (9-7, 3-2 CC) reeled off a 5-0 run and then another 4-0 run that tied the set at 21-21.  After SWU retook the lead briefly at 22-21 the Tornado picked up three straight kills from Summer Kremer to take a 24-22 lead. After a point by the Warriors, Kremer and the Tornado finished off the set with another kill. Kremer ended the match with 23 kills on 63 attacks.
The Warriors bounced back in the third to hit .268 after hitting just .140 in the second.  SWU grabbed an early lead at 12-7 and pushed the margin out to 22-15 which allowed the Warriors to withstand a 6-0 run from King before trading points until Ramsey finished it off with one of her 13 kills.
Ramsey was one of four players in double figures with those 13 kills and was also one of five in double figures in digs with 16.  Jacinta Hoffpauir also had 13 kills while Alysia Cruell added 10 kills and eight digs.  Sarah Hughey led the team with 16 kills and also added 13 digs.
The Warriors dug 77 balls on the night as Courtney O'Brien collected 14 and Milica Stamenic chipped in with 12.  Megan Widener continued to provide an all-around effort with 13 digs, four kills and 40 assists.  O'Brien also added 10 assists and two kills on the night.
The Warriors are one of two unbeaten teams in the conference on the year along with Erskine and are tied with the Flying Fleet for first in the South Division.  The two teams will play twice this year.
SWU closes out the weekend at Lees-McRae on Saturday with a 12 p.m. first serve.
