CENTRAL, S.C. – On the strength of three first half goals the Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team scorched North Greenville on Homecoming by the score of 7-1 to win a matchup of Conference Carolinas foes.
The Warriors netted three goals in the first half including two within 25 seconds of each other as Noel Fischer recorded both of those goals to give him six in his rookie season. The first goal for Fischer came at the 39:05 mark in the first half as Ivan Malagon's initial shot was saved by NGU keeper James Moore but Fischer was there for the cleanup. Fischer's second goal came just 25 seconds later as Fischer dribbled into the box, stopped and cut back to clear space and fired the ball past a diving Moore.
SWU (10-6, 4-5 CC) hit the break up 3-0 and scored early in the second half to eliminate any doubt of a comeback from the Crusaders. NGU scored their lone goal in the 55th minute as Victor Tarpinian headed in a ball off a free kick.
Valentino Zaglia netted his first goal of the season in the 78th minute as he got behind the defense and chipped a ball over the keeper. Joao Oliveira got the scoring started in the 20th minute with his fourth of the year, a ball from the deep right corner that beat Moore. Malagon added the goal at the start of the second half, his fourth as he knocked it in from long range.
Bruno Liozzi and Christian Taylor each scored late in the second half, Liozzi his team-leading eighth in the 65th minute and Taylor's second in the 88th.
The Warriors close out the regular season next Saturday by welcoming Mount Olive to Childs Field.
