Warriors fall in OT again

Box Score

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Another overtime game and another heartbreaking ending was in store for the Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon against Conference Carolinas rival King (Tenn.) University.

The Warriors (9-6, 3-5 CC) lost for the second time in their last three games on an early overtime goal, this time coming in the 93rd minute as King's Ryan Murphy scored his second of the game.  SWU is 0-2 in overtime games this year after posting a 2-0-2 record in extra sessions a year ago. Both losses this season in overtime have come in the first three minutes.

Bruno Liozzi scored his seventh of the season to give SWU a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. After a handball in the box gave the Warriors a penalty kick, Liozzi stepped up and scored his second of the year from the penalty spot.

Ryan Murphy tied the game just six minutes into the second half, volleying off a pass from Chris Hicks at the top of the box.

King took 16 shots in the match compared to just 12 for the Warriors.  In the extra session the Tornado took the lone shot, Murphy's game winner.  Joao Oliveira led the Warriors with four shots, putting three on target.

The Warriors return home on Saturday to host North Greenville during Homecoming at 5 p.m.
