Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – Terrance Hutchins scored 23 of his game-high 25 points after halftime as the Warriors fought off a scrappy Brewton-Parker squad 78-67 in overtime in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Thursday night.
The Warriors (10-7, 5-3 SSAC) were in control with 3:39 to play in regulation, up seven at 60-53 but a 7-0 by the Barons (6-10, 3-4 SSAC) knotted the game at 60-60. The Warriors had two cracks at winning the game in regulation but Hutchins couldn't convert either attempt.
Hutchins was the catalyst after halftime despite missing those two shots as he connected on 7 of 12 from the floor in the second half and overtime after missing his only field goal attempt in the first half. The senior converted 11 of 13 from the free throw as he continually got into the lane. Hutchins managed to outscore the entire Brewton-Parker team in overtime, netting nine points to the Barons seven. He also grabbed nine rebounds in over 36 minutes.
The Warriors finished the game shooting 46 percent overall but were just 3 of 12 from beyond the arc. The Barons shot only 34 percent overall but pounded the offensive glass to the tune of 21 offensive rebounds. The Warriors still almost outscored the Barons on second chance points (16-17) despite only having 12 offensive rebounds.
Cameron Solomon scored 11 of his 17 in the first half but turned the ball over eight times after the break. The Warriors as a team committed 27 turnovers, a season-high by five. It was just the third time SWU turned it over 20 times or more and the first since November 5 against Dalton State. Kenny Holmes added 15 points and seven boards for the Warriors. Dwayne Bryant had a team-high 11 rebounds.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday as they head down to Franklin Springs to battle Emmanuel in a renewal of the Lil' Bronze Peach Series. The Lions lead the Warriors 12-8 in the series after the fall season. Saturday's tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
