Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan never trailed and weren't tested in their Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) home opener on Friday night, defeating Martin Methodist 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-15).
The Warriors (14-6, 2-0 SSAC) run their home record to 3-0 on the season, all three wins have lasted just three sets.
SWU was nearly flawless on the night, hitting .549 with just three errors on 71 attacks. The Warriors had 14 kills in every set and hit .609 in the second with zero errors. Courtney Williams led the team with 11 kills and a .611 attack percentage. The junior did not have an error in her 18 swings. Cherilyn Ramsey also reached double figures with 10 kills on 14 swings, a .634 attack percentage.
Martin Methodist (1-8, 0-4 SSAC) hit only .131 for the match. Gloria Watson led all players with 12 kills and hit .391 for the match.
The Warriors got off to fast starts in all three sets, taking 10-3, 10-4 and 10-4 leads early on. SWU collected 12 service aces in the match, their second highest total of the season. Tori Wanner led the way with four aces despite just playing in two sets. Hayley Hoover added three aces and Kelsey Deerinwater and Olivia Sons had two each.
SWU had only 21 digs in the match, their second lowest total of the season, but both of those low outputs resulted in wins. Deerinwater led the way with nine digs. Courtney Williams was big on the defensive end as well, collecting two solo and two assisted blocks.
The Warriors will host another SSAC rookie in Bethel (Tenn.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
