BRISTOL, Tenn. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball will compete in the King College Invitational this weekend (Sept. 13-14), playing four matches against NCAA II teams.
King College – Lost 3-0 (15-25, 27-29, 14-25)
The Warriros hit only .140 for the match, their third-lowest percentage of the season. King's block proved troublesome in the match as Grace Underwood and Summer Kremer had four and three block assists for the Tornado. King (3-3) finished the match with six total blocks and hit .359 overall including .484 in the third set.
Hayley Hoover and Alysia Cruell led SWU (9-6) with eight kills a piece. Megan Widener turned in another double-double, her 5th of the season, with 30 assists and 14 digs. Kelsey Deerinwater led all players with 18 digs.
Trevecca Nazarene – Won 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 15-9)
The Warriors won in five sets for the third time on the season and improve to 3-3 on the year in five-setters with the win over TNU. SWU is now 10-6 on the season while the Trojans drop to 3-3.
Cherilyn Ramsey tied a career-high with 19 kills and hit a robust .351 in the match. This marked the 10th time Ramsey has recorded double-digit kills this year. The team rebounded to hit .222 for the match, collecting 68 kills. TNU hit only .169. Joining Ramsey in double-digits were Courtney Williams (14 kills), Jacinta Hoffpauir (12) and Hayley Hoover (11).
Megan Widener tallied 51 assists, just one off her career-best total of 52 set against Bryan earlier this year. Kelsey Deerinwater led all players with 24 digs. Hoffpauir and Hoover added a double-double with 10 and 20 digs to go along with their 12 and 11 kills.
Concord (W. Va.) – Won 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-18)
The Warriors won their second straight, sweeping Concord in straight sets. Jacinta Hoffpauir led all players with 17 kills and hit .371 as the Warriors overpowered Concord. SWU hit .274 as a team including an impressive .455 in the opening set (17-2-33). Courtney Williams and Cherilyn Ramsey joined Hoffpauir in double-digits with 10 kills each. Williams hit .421 while Ramsey turned in an attack percentage of .350.
Megan Widener turned in her second straight 40+ assist match with exactly 40 assists. She has recorded over 40 assists in eight matches this season. Kelsey Deerinwater led the defense with 16 digs while Hayley Hoover added 13 digs.
UVA-Wise – Won 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-22)
SWU rolled to their third straight win and have won 10 of 12 since a 2-4 start. Courtney Williams was the fourth different player to lead the team in kills on the weekend, racking up 15 against UVA-Wise. She hit .520 for the match as the team hit an astounding .426. Cherilyn Ramsey hit .556 with 13 kills and Jacinta Hoffpauir had 12 kills and just one error on 18 attacks, good for a .611 attack percentage. Megan Widener turned in another 40 assist match as Hoffpauir led the team with 14 digs.
The Warriors will open SSAC play on Tuesday as they travel to Emmanuel College for a 7 p.m. match. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in any sport this season as SWU looks to tack back the Lil' Bronze Peach.
