No. 21 Men's Soccer Takes Down Bob Jones 2-0

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. – It wasn't pretty but No. 21 Southern Wesleyan men's soccer prevailed 2-0 over Bob Jones University on Saturday in the home opener for the Warriors.

The Warriors (2-0-0) had seemingly endless opportunities, firing off 26 shots but came away with just two goals.  The first goal came off the foot of Alejandro Sanchez as Richie Barbetty earned the assist.  That goal came just ten minutes before the halftime break.

Jonathan Ruiz found the back of the net in the 87th minute to seal the match for the Warriors.  Ruiz beat his defender down the left sideline and riffled a shot past Joseph Wooster for his first goal of the season.  Alejandro Sanchez was credited for the assist on the goal.

Bob Jones (0-1-0) managed just five shots but all five were pretty dangerous.  SWU keeper Ruben Rodriguez was credited with just one save – a save that may have been the play of the game.  Rodriguez was able to fly in the air and deflect a shot destined for the upper-90 and knock it out for a corner kick.  Andrew Mosiant took three shots for the Bruins, all from distance and with a nice pace but were just offline.

The Warriors have a week to regroup after two games in three days and will host Milligan College next Saturday at 7 p.m.  After that SWU will be on the road for four straight as they enter SSAC action.
