Box Score 2 MOBILE, Ala. – Southern Wesleyan volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday during the final day of the SHC/Mobile Invitational. The Warriors fell in five sets to Xavier (La.) before fighting back to beat Southern-New Orleans in five sets. SWU finished the tournament 1-3, with three matches going the distance.
Xavier Match – Lost 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 25-19, 12-15)
Jacinta Hoffpauir and Courtney Williams combined to record 30 of the team's 62 kills in the match as the juniors collected 15 each. Hoffpauir added 12 digs and Williams tallied three blocks and six digs. Cherilyn Ramsey added 14 digs and four blocks. Alysia Cruell chipped in with eight kills and four blocks.
Kelsey Deerinwater led the defense with 25 digs and Hayley Hoover added 20, along with seven kills. Megan widener tallied 48 assists, seven digs and five kills in the match. The team hit .153 for the match while Xavier hit .189.
Southern Match – Won 3-2 (20-25, 25-12, 25-20 22-25, 15-12)
Jacinta Hoffpauir led five players in double digits with 15 kills and hit .233 for the match as the Warriors picked up their lone win over the weekend. Hoffpauir added 14 digs in the match and two blocks. Cherilyn Ramsey added 14 kills and four blocks.
Megan Widener totaled 40 assists with 15 digs and five kills. Hayley Hoover joined her with a double-double of 10 kills and 20 digs. Kelsey Deerinwater added 20 digs as well. Courtney Williams rounded out the five players with double digit kills with 10.
The Warriors hit .207 for the match including a .438 mark in the second set where they won 25-12. Southern hit only .152 for the match.
SWU will host Lander in an exhibition match on Tuesday (8/27) before hitting the road again next weekend for four matches at Milligan.
