Warriors suffer setback at Erskine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DUE WEST, S.C. – A pair of close games went the way of Erskine as the Warriors dropped two to their future Conference Carolinas foe.  The Fleet took game one 4-3 and game two 4-2.

Southern Wesleyan will play a full CC schedule next year as part of the transition to NCAA Division II.

The Warriors return home to host another future CC rival in North Greenville on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Game One
Another game and another dramatic ending as Erskine's Ericka McCarson hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Fleet a 4-3 win.  This was the third straight one-run game for the Warriors that was decided in the final inning.

SWU took a 3-1 lead after scoring twice in the second and once in the third.  Shelby Stroud blasted her first home run of the season in the second, a two-run shot after Allison Barbee walked earlier in the inning.  In the third Callie Wayne was hit by a pitch and later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of M.C. Garrett.

The Fleet tied the game with two runs in the fifth with a solo home run and a run-scoring single after an error prolonged the inning.

Both pitchers were on their game as Jenn Jacoby allowed just four hits in 6.1 innings of work.  She struck out five and walked three, taking the loss to fall to 6-7.  Danica Newton also went the distance for Erskine, allowing just three hits and walking one with four strikeouts.

Game Two
A pair of homers lifted Erskine past the Warriors in game two as the SWU offense was held to just three hits.  Erskine hit a two-run homer in the first and followed with a solo bomb in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

The Warriors answered with a pair of unearned runs in the third as M.C. Garrett and Sara Sweatt both came home on an error by the shortstop.  The only hit in that inning came two batters after Fela's at-bat where she reached on the error.  After Fela's at-bat, Allison Barbee reached on a walk and was followed by Shelby Stroud's single to load the bases but were unable to push the tying run across.

Allison Parker took the loss for the Warriors to fall to 5-3 on the year after six innings of six-hit, four run ball.  She struck out three and walked five.  Kaylin White took the win after a six-inning performance allowing just two hits.  Katherine Mulzer got the save after giving up just one hit.
