Four Warriors Named to NCCAA South Region Men's Soccer Team

Four Southern Wesleyan men's soccer players were named to the NCCAA South Region 1st team and one more made the 2nd team.


Sophomore Ruben Rodriguez, sophomore Richie Barbetty, junior Joao Oliveira and senior Douglas Andrade were all named to the first team while junior Alejandro Sanchez was named to the second team.
The Warriors claimed the NCCAA South Region title with a 1-0 victory over Shorter University and will make their third appearance in the NCCAA National Tournament on Monday.


Rodriguez started 18 of 20 games in goal for SWU, posting a 9-6-2 record and making 74 saves.  He recorded a 1.47 goals against average on the season and had six shutouts.  Andrade led the team with 11 goals and 26 points and recorded a hat-trick in the season-opening win at St. Andrews.


Barbetty added one goal and three assists as he played a valuable position in the back line throughout most of the season.  Oliveira recorded five goals – good for second on the team – and two assists.


The Warriors will take on Campbellsville in the first game of pool play action at the NCCAA National Tournament at 7 p.m. on Monday in Kissimmee, Fla.
