Volleyball Falters in SSAC Semis

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Southern Wesleyan's bid for berth to the NAIA Opening Round was spoiled after suffering a 3-0 loss to top-seed Spring Hill in the semifinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.

The Warriors (26-12) were unable to duplicate a five-set thriller like the two teams played earlier in the year in Central.  In both matches SWU dropped the first two sets but on Saturday the Badgers (34-3) ended the match in the third to take the match, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22.

Cherilyn Ramsey was the lone Warrior in double-figures with 15 kills while posting a .343 attack percentage.  The Warriors hit .220 for the match and posted a .303 mark in the second set but SHC was nearly untouchable at .396.  Megan Haber led all players with 17 kills.

Megan Widener tallied 30 assists and Kelsey Deerinwater posted 11 digs to lead the Warriors.  Alysia Cruell and Hayley Hoover each had eight kills and Cruell added two service aces.

The Warriors will now turn their attention to the NCCAA and will host the South Region tournament in Tysinger Gymnasium.  The dates have been moved to Nov. 19-20 to allow teams from the NCAA the opportunity to compete.  Full details on the event will be released at a later date.
