Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team was eliminated from the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday night, falling to No. 4 seeded Belhaven 4-1.
The Warriors (9-6-1) entered the tournament as the fifth seed after a 6-4-1 record inside the SSAC this season. On Saturday the Warriors trailed just 1-0 at the half after David Major found the back of the net in the 28th minute.
Major added his second goal in the 66th minute and Will Monsour added the third for the Blazers just moments later in the 69th minute. Just 25 seconds after Monsour's goal the Warriors got on the board as Jonathan Ruiz scored off a pass from Juan Agudelo.
With over 20 minutes to play the Warriors were looking to find the equalizer and took the next four shots. Douglas Andrade hit the post in the 73rd minute and Juan Quintero hit the post in the 80th but the Warriors were unable to find the back of the net. Belhaven added their fourth and final goal in the 83rd minute to seal the Warriors' fate.
The shot total ended up close in the end, 13-11 in favor of Belhaven, but all 11 shots for SWU came after halftime. Ruben Rodriguez made one save in goal for the Warriors while Carl Blundell made three for Belhaven.
The Warriors will turn their attention to the NCCAA South Region tournament that is scheduled to be hosted by Emmanuel College. The event is set to begin on Nov. 20 if a third day is needed for competition, the semifinals and finals will be Nov. 22 and 23.
