Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern Wesleyan volleyball team survived their first match in pool play at the SSAC Tournament, defeating the ninth-seeded Loyola (La.) Wolfpack 3-1.
The Warriors will have the rest of the day off before finishing out pool play on Friday at 1:30 p.m. eastern against Coastal Georgia. SWU and Coastal Georgia split two matches this season.
SWU (25-10) won the final three sets after dropping the first 20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 28-26. Cherilyn Ramsey led the Warriors with 18 kills on 36 attacks to hit .333 for the match. SWU hit .160 for the match but bounced back after hitting just.050 in the first to hit .257 and .250 in the second and third.
Jacinta Hoffpauir added 15 kills and Alysia Cruell added 11. Megan Widener led the way with 51 assists and six digs. Kelsey Deerinwater racked up 31 digs to lead all players. Hayley Hoover added 14 digs and eight kills.
The win gives the Warriors a leg up on advancing to the knockout portion of the tournament. They can advance before Friday's match if Coastal Georgia defeats Loyola later today. The Warriors can get a bye into the semifinals with a win over Costal Georgia.
