Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's basketball overcame a four point halftime deficit to win their second straight, 86-78 over Bethel (Tenn.) in Southern Stats Athletic Conference action on Saturday night.
The Warriors trailed by as much as eight in the first half before using a full-court pressure defense to turn the tide in the second half. SWU (3-2, 2-0 SSAC) forced 12 second half turnovers. The Warriors used a 15-3 run inside the first four minutes of the second half to seize the lead and never relinquished it. The lead reached its peak at 19 on multiple occasions, the first coming at 78-59 with over five minutes remaining.
Cameron Solomon scored 21 of his game-high 30 points in the second half, knifing to the basket and getting to the line. Solomon finished 10-of-19 from the floor and 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. He added three steals and four rebounds.
Kenny Holmes kept the Warriors in the game in the first half, scoring 15 of his 28 before halftime on 6-of-11 shooting. Holmes finished the game 10-of-17 from the floor and connected on 3-of-7 from long distance. He also pulled down six rebounds and handed out three assists.
The Warriors shot nearly 52-percent from the floor while the Wildcats (4-2, 0-2 SSAC) shot well at 50-percent. SWU pulled down 37 rebounds led by Dwayne Bryant's game-high of nine. The Wildcats grabbed 29 rebounds and were led by Walt Andrews' seven. Bethel was led in scoring by Mark Vaughn's 22 points.
Jordan Wallace added six assists and eight points for the Warriors and Mike Lieberman contributed three blocks.
The Warriors will have a quick turnaround, stepping out of SSAC play to host Voorhees on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
